Adiantaceae family
Adiantaceae is a family of fern plants belonging to the order of Pteridales.The family includes also species earlier incorporated within the Vittariaceaefamily.
Representative of the family is the Adiantum capillus-veneris Lspecies (Vittaria appalachiana)listed in the Red Book of Bulgaria as a critically endangered species. It is a perennial herbaceous plant with a fragile, short root.The leaves are delicate, long up to 30 cm, ovate to ovate lanceolate, двойно ortriple cirrus.They arefan-or wedge-shapedand all have simple leaves withsori that follow the veins and lack trueindusial; the sori are most often marginal with a false indusium formed from the reflexed leaf margin. It propagates by spores and is spread in the warm moderate and tropical zones, being almost cosmopolitan specie.It is found in West and South Europe, Crimea, North, Central and South Africa, Madagascar, Reunion, Asia, North and South America – from the southern regions of the USA to Venezuela and Peru, Australia, Polynesia. In Bulgaria it spreads in the West border Mountain, the Struma valley,the SlavyiankaMountain,the Rhodope Mountain, around 1,000 метра above sea level.
Factors that negatively impact the distribution of the species are drought climate, limited spread of the species, its eradication and collection for decorative purposes.
