The Balkan Ecological Center, based at the University Botanical Garden – Balchik, was established and has been functioning since 2011. Its activities include organizing and initiating scientific research and educational operations within the University Botanical Gardens of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski.”

The master's program "Ecomanagement" is a joint educational initiative with the leading participation of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski,” the Faculty of Biology, and the Balkan Ecological Center (BEC) based at the University Botanical Garden - Balchik. This master's program is one of the innovative offerings at Sofia University, with a broad interdisciplinary foundation, reflecting the issues surrounding ecomanagement. The training is implemented in two relevant modules: "Management of Botanical Gardens and Agroecosystems" and "Ecological Policies," in partnership with other faculties of Sofia University and institutes of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS).

The master's program is designed for a wide range of candidates – bachelor's or master's degree holders from fields related to biology, ecology, biotechnology, management, agronomy, and other similar disciplines.
