Boraginaceae

The Boraginaceaeis a family of angiosperm with cosmopolitan distribution the largest number being in the Mediterranean region.
They are annual or perennial primarily herbaceous plants, covered with rough, prickly hairs (from where the name is derived). The flowers are simple, uncut, without stipules, alternately arranged. The raceme has a flower at the top of the main axis and a flower or several flowers on the lateral axis.The flowers are bisexual. The fruit vessel is syncarpous with a bilocular carpel. The fruit is breaks down into 4 nuts. The species are medicinal, weeds, decorative and melliferous, some are poisonous.
Throughout Bulgaria are found some 70 species of 21 genera. Of them, 12 species are protected plants.
