The Tulip Parade at the University Botanical Garden – Balchik has already begun
The first tulip blooms are marking the start of the spring spectacle. The earliest varieties have now fully opened, setting the scene for the season, while the peak of the display is expected very soon—around Easter.
This year once again, the parade—now a tradition for over 13 years—will showcase an impressive diversity, with more than 60,000 bulbs representing all tulip classes, arranged in groups according to their flowering period.
Among the new varieties introduced to the garden this season are ‘Armani’ and ‘Happy Generation’ from the Triumph group, ‘Fiery Club’, a late-flowering multi-headed variety, and ‘Quebec’ from the early Greigii tulips, which were among the first to bloom.
Among the double (peony-flowered) tulips, ‘Negrita Double’ from the early group and ‘Gudoshnik Double’ from the late group stand out with their rich, multi-layered blooms.
The darkest highlights this year include ‘Black Parrot’ from the parrot tulips and ‘Uncle Tom’ from the late double group, both featuring deep, velvety tones.
For those drawn to more unusual forms, the late-flowering viridiflora tulip ‘Doll’s Minuet’ offers distinctive coloring, while the lily-flowered ‘Purple Doll’ impresses with its elegant shape.
We invite you to explore the spring tulip display at the University Botanical Garden – Balchik. In April, the garden is open to visitors daily from 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM.
