European Geography Olympiad Visits the University Botanic Garden – Balchik

On 2 July 2026, the University Botanic Garden – Balchik and the State Cultural Institute – Cultural Centre "The Palace" had the pleasure of welcoming participants in the European Geography Olympiad (EGEO), hosted in Bulgaria this year.

From 28 June to 3 July 2026, the city of Varna is hosting this prestigious international event, jointly organised by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Municipality of Varna, and the Faculty of Geology and Geography at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski".

During their visit, the guests explored the rich living plant collections of the University Botanic Garden – Balchik and learned about the history, architecture, and cultural significance of the Architectural and Park Complex "The Palace". The tour offered participants the opportunity to experience the unique combination of botanical diversity, scientific activity, and cultural heritage that makes the complex one of the most remarkable destinations along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.

We sincerely thank all participants for their visit and for their interest in our botanical collections and cultural heritage. It was a privilege to be part of the European Geography Olympiad programme and to showcase the unique character and richness of the University Botanic Garden – Balchik.
