Dogwood is a shrub or low tree common in Europe and Asia. The leaves are ovate, pointed and entire and are located opposite. The flowers are yellow and develop before the leaves occour. The fruits are elongated with a red flesh. The species blooms February-March and inhabits forests and shrubs. It has medicinal, nutritional and decorative significance. For medicinal purposes, the fruits are used, which are collected when they are fully ripe. The species is also known by the names Drenovitsa, Drenka and can be seen in the park of UBG Sofia.
