Aubrieta (Aubrieta × hybrida Hausskn.) is a flowering herbaceous perennial plant from the family Brassicaceae, native to Southern Europe.
The species forms a well-branched fibrous root system and exhibits highly branched, sub-epiterranean stems densely covered with small, alternately arranged leaves. They are linear-lanceolate to rhomboid in shape, with 1–3 serrations along each side of the blade. The leaves are heavily pubescent, which explains their grayish-green appearance.
The flowers are solitary, measuring approximately 1–1.5 cm in diameter, and consist of four petals. During the blooming period, the plant's foliage is effectively concealed by the abundant flowers. Under favorable conditions the plant may start то bloom as early as mid-to-late March through April and May.
Aubrieta (Aubrieta × hybrida Hausskn.) is valued for its dense, low-growing habitus. It thrives in full or partial sun exposure and well-drained soils. The cultivars are well-suited for rock gardens, alpine plantings, and as ground cover in landscape design.
