The event is part of the “Big Picnic – engaging the public with Responsible Research and Innovation on FoodSecurity”.

On March 30, 2017 experts from the University Botanic Gardens organized a co-creation session with the local community. The event was part of the “Big Picnic: Big Quiestions – engaging the public with Responsible Research and Innovation on FoodSecurity”. The participants in the meeting were informed about the Project as well as about the forthcoming key activities that are to be carried out during the 2016-2019 period.
The “city agriculture” topic brought together university lecturers, officials in the administration, teachers and other friends. The opportunities of growing edible plant species were presented and demonstrated. Little known edible plants and lately neglected traditional cultures were included in an improvised plant show. At the stand, there could also be seen issues of the “List – Botanical Observer” magazine, a publication of the University Botanic Gardens and the Balkan Ecology Center to the Botanic Garden – Balchik, that hosts the traditional “food from nature” rubric.
At the meeting, there were also held different interactive demonstrations, thematic discussions and an exchange of experience. The opinion shared by the participants is of great significance for the improvement of the travelling shows that are being prepared, via which the University Botanic Garden will engage the public in different towns in Bulgaria and will provoke the urban population to appreciate the importance of the food we grow on our own at home.
